Glastonbury Festival 2013

Glastonbury Festival is one of the biggest events on earth, attracting over 135,000 people over 3 to 4 days and major rock and pop artists from around the world – incl. in 2011 U2.

The Glastonbury 2013 Festival is expected to draw around 150,000 people, with no 2012 festival being planned due to the London Olympics.

Today referred to simply as “Glastonbury”, the original Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts drew around 1,500 people and cost £1 including free milk from the farm.

It was founded by Michael Eavis, a Somerset farmer, after he visited an open‐air Led Zeppelin concert in 1970 which inspired him to host a free festival the following year on his farm.

Famous for its line‐ups of bands, Glastonbury today is visited by tourists from all around the world, with tickets usually sold out within hours a year in advance. Most profits are donated to charity and the local community.

Glastonbury 2013 will begin on Wednesday June 26th 2013.
