Nit de Foc, which is Catalan for Night of Fire, is an epic festival celebrated throughout Spain.
This impressive festival is a way of celebrating the feast day for several patron Saints of Spain (there are around 50 patron Saints altogether and the Spanish really love an excuse to party!).
Although the happenings of this festival are more or less the same in each city it's held in, one of the best places to check out this event is in Mallorca.
What better way to celebrate Nit de Foc, than on a breath-taking Mediterranean island where the Spanish really know how to throw a good party? Just think, sunny beaches, amazing tapas, and loads of Sangria!
In Mallorca, the towns of Palma and Capdepera throw the most extravagant festivals for Nit de Foc (and this is just one night of a weeklong celebration).
The Night of Fire is truly an unbelievable spectacle, where the streets are lit with bonfires and fireworks, and demons dance and roam through the burning streets.
Just make sure you try to enjoy Mallorcan rhythmic drumming, dancing and food stalls, without getting burnt!
The terrifyingly dressed 'demons' circulate amid the crowd throughout the night with burning torches that they won't hesitate to swing right at you.
Tips for thirsty travelers:
- Remember to wear protective clothing no matter how hot the weather. This includes long pants, long-sleeved shirts and particularly anything for your head and eyes.
- If the demons set you alight, the main thing is – Don't freak out! The event is usually held next to a lake or near water stations where you can quickly put yourself out safely.
