Travelling with Mates

Have a couple of good mates who are keen to see the world?

Why not stop talking about it and really plan something this time? Plan the perfect travel itinerary that caters to all of you, and make a budget together so you can all save enough cash before the big travel date.

Here are a few things to think about before you step onto that plane…

The Perks of Travelling with Mates:

The Comfort Zone
Travelling with mates makes it so much easier to head out on the town for a beer, or to try to communicate with the laundry guy down the road who only speaks in fluent slurs rather than German. Two heads can make translating conversations and reading street maps a lot easier, and not to mention you can always just head to the nearest pub with your mate if you get too lost.

A Safety Net for inexperienced travellers
Travelling with mates is perfect for the inexperienced traveller. Get through all the travel hurdles together, and take a bit of home with you for comfort. If you have no idea what to expect when travelling overseas, it's recommended you take a buddy to ease yourself into it – even if they can only come for the first two weeks and you plan on staying on after.

The Cons of Travelling with Mates:

Got mates that are way too rowdy?
Do they like to bring strangers home for a long night between the sheets (to your shared room or hostel)? Unless you're down to join in – this will probably get old.

The flight fights
After you've shared rooms, buses, trains, planes and hangovers with the mate or partner you're travelling with – you're bound to have at least one big argument on a grumpy, tired day. Whether it's over a destination or who blew the rest of your cash at the pub last night – these things happen, and must be expected when you're travelling with other people.
