Record beer consumption at Oktoberfest '07
Despite a drop in attendance, sales of beer at Oktoberfest, the world's biggest beer festival in the German city of Munich, hit an all-time record. As the festival came to a close on Sunday, 6.7 million one-liter steins of beer were served this year according to officials, although the number of visitors dropped by 300,000 to 6.2 million for the two-week festival.
"With the Thirsty Swagman team hammering around 9 litres each per day during our Euro Hard'n'Fast tour (plus countless shots of Schnapps!), the average drinker at Oktoberfest didn't even come close to our efforts" says Chief Swagman Kenneth Hart proudly.
Organizers also said 200,000 beer steins were confiscated from guests trying to smuggle them out as souvenirs, while 565 people had to be treated for excessive alcohol consumption.
