Beer and travel are made for each other

Beer and conversation

Kenneth Hart loves beer and travel. The two are made for each other, he believes. What he couldn't believe was that no one had combined the two commercially, which is why he started the Thirsty Swagman tour company four years ago.

For Perth-based Hart, travel is primarily about people, and pubs are the best places to meet people. ''People don't make friends standing in front of the Eiffel Tower, they make friends over a beer in a pub or bar,'' he says. ''That's what you remember years later - the people you met.''

Not surprisingly, his favourite festival is Munich's Oktoberfest. Usually at this time of the year he is in Munich - he's been to Oktoberfest four times - but the pressure of business has kept him home in Perth this year. But Hart plans to find a place for himself on one of the eight pub tours run by the Thirsty Swagman in Europe and Asia this year.
