Oktoberfest Blumenau
Blumenau, a city in Vale do Itajaí in southern Brazil, was founded as a German colony in 1850 and hosts the largest Oktoberfest outside of Germany.
With a population or almost 300,000, Blumenau is one of the cities in the European Valley, a top Santa Catarina attraction.
The first Oktoberfest in the city was held in 1984 to help Blumanau recover from a flood.
There are 18 days of music, dance and food, commemorating Brazil’s Germany heritage.
The festival, held every October, attracts around a million tourists every year and over 16 million people have attended since the event began.
The 2010 Oktoberfest in Blumenau had nearly 600,000 visitors. They drank 583,681 litres of beer, nearly equalling Bavaria’s original Oktoberfest for beer consumption per person.
