American college kids love Spring Break, and let’s face it who wouldn’t when it’s a great excuse to party all day and night for several weeks of the year!
There are countless spring break destinations but the more exotic they are, the better and that’s why Mexico often wins out as the preferred destination. It’s close to the United States so it’s quick and easy to get to, and there are plenty of airlines offering affordable flights to popular Mexican resorts solely to cater to the spring break crowd.
Of course it’s not just Americans who get a spring break, and if you’re looking for the best places in Mexico to spend your own spring break, read on…
Located on the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, Cancun is not only one of the top spring break destinations but one of the world’s top beach destinations. Its beautiful turquoise waters and white sand beaches provide exactly what you’d expect from its Caribbean setting, and there are countless resorts and hotels lining the beaches that you can stay in.
Cancun’s all inclusive plans are popular with spring breakers, and the hotels are well geared to the influx of students from around the world, offering cheap booze and loads of parties and entertainment.
Puerto Vallarta has a different feel thanks to its Pacific Ocean location, though its sandy beaches still give the exotic feel by day, while its vibrant clubs, bars and beach parties keep the atmosphere pumping by night. If you are here in March check out the Electronic Dance Music (EDM) festival, called Electro Beach Puerto Vallarta.
Cabo San Lucas
Also on the Pacific side of Mexico, Cabo San Lucas is right on the southern tip of Baja California and is popular year-round, not just at spring break time. It’s actually been rated as one of the top 5 destinations in Mexico, and offers a good mix of party atmosphere combined with beaches for chilling out. If you want the nightlife there’s plenty of it in Cabo!
Playa del Carmen
Back to the Caribbean side of Mexico for our final Mexican spring break destination. Playa del Carmen has a slightly more chic yet laid-back feel than Cancun, though this doesn’t mean you should avoid it! The hotels, drinks and entertainment are still all very affordable here, but it’s not quite so manic and party-driven as Cancun. The beaches are spectacular, and there are some great bars and entertainment venues to choose from.
So there are four of the best spring break destinations in Mexico. The fact is you could go anywhere in Mexico for a great vacation, but these four places are where you’ll find the biggest crowds!
