Pub Crawl Etiquette – How to maintain yours
Call it what you like; bar crawl, pub tour, bar hopping or more – everyone loves a good pub crawl. Whether it’s in a mysterious city in a new and foreign country, a party bus for your best mate’s birthday, or just an event kicking off at your local pubs down the road, you know it’s going to be a good time – and maybe a messy one…
For those who have been on numerous pub crawls, you’re probably more than aware of the few partygoers that just can’t seem to keep up. These attractive leftovers can often be found lagging behind with their head in a bin, toilet or street alleyway.
To be honest it’s not too hard to do these days with most crawls taking you on a tangled journey of shots, shots and more shots. So here’s a bit of advise pubcrawl advice for all those thirsty lads and ladettes out there who would like to keep their dignity and reputation in tact.
Pre-drinks can equal a pre-mature night
Let’s be real about this… Everyone loves a good pre-drinks party – but be aware of your limit. No matter what (or how much money you’re trying to save), keep in mind that most pub crawls offer one free shot at every bar that you go to.
Want to make it through the entire drinking marathon? Don’t get absolutely wrecked beforehand – slow and steady wins the race.
Your dignity is just one less shot away
Keep your wits about you. If someone’s buying rounds of shots and you feel plastered – say no. Easily said than done (trust me, we know), but not having that last drink will help you survive the pubcrawl.
Eating is not cheating
You know your body better than anyone else. If eating a burger before heading out on your pub crawling adventure, means you can drink more and stay out later – just eat the damn burger. You (and maybe everyone else) will be better off for it.
In fact, eating something at the end of the night is never a bad thing either. No one likes nasty hangovers and everyone loves pizza.
Social media is everywhere
Finally (and maybe the most important point of all), remember that Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other ridiculously revealing networks are only a flash and a click away, with the ability to expose you wherever you are in the world.
What happens in Europe, no longer stays in Europe – instead, it runs straight to your tagged photos, which you probably don’t want becoming an competitive display of ‘how drunk you can get each weekend’ (even if that is your mission).
So keep in mind, pub crawls occur in groups. Those mates you met a couple of hours back probably don’t care whether that photo of you table top dancing hits the internet.
